California Miramar University (CMU) signed a collaboration to offer online degrees in Kenya through Inoorero University at a ceremony held on Tuesday, 13th July 2010 at Inoorero Centre. This is the first time in Kenya that students will be able to access online degree courses locally and have an opportunity to meet and interact with their professors using current online technologies. Unlike Distance learning, online mode of learning allows students to attend lectures and complete their coursework online at their convenience. Students who enroll in this program will have the option of purely online or hybrid learning which includes occasional face to face lectures administered at Inoorero University.
Leveraging on the broad band fast internet through fiber optic connection, Inoorero University has responded to the ever increasing market need to make University Education more accessible. The collaboration will now make it possible for Kenyans to access online degree courses that have not been available in the local universities in a flexible, purely online or hybrid learning environment. “We are making every effort to respond to market needs to reach more students by offering quality education in a flexible learning environment. Instruction will no longer only be a purely classroom affair,” said Prof. Henry Thairu, Vice Chancellor, Inoorero University.
The collaboration between Inoorero University and California Miramar University brings extra benefits to Kenyan students. They will now be able to attain an American degree without having to travel to The United States. This is especially beneficial for those who wish to study and work at the same time. Moreover, California Miramar University offers degree programmes which are not available in Kenya such as Bsc. and MBA in Business Administration with specialization in Healthcare Management, Master of Science in Telecommunication Management, Master of Taxation and Trade for Executives. A major opportunity in this collaboration is the Associate Degree programme which will be offered to thousands of Kenyans who could not previously access University Education.
Commenting on the collaboration, Dr. Dominic Mwenja, President, California Miramar University said, “We have a rigorous admission criteria and we ensure that our students satisfy the standards required by accrediting bodies in the United States. This collaboration will enable us to make a contribution to the development of human capital in Kenya”.
