Inoorero University, through the Regional Center for Enterprise Development (RCED) has entered into collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federation of Women Entrepreneur Associations (FEWA) to offer structured support to women businesses operating in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Specifically the partnership will entail:

  1. Collaboration on building capacity to women entrepreneurs through skills, development and mentorship;
  2. Collaboration in researching, developing and disseminating information and knowledge relating to MSMEs support with focus on women, youth and the disabled.

FEWA Chairperson Joanne Mwangi, stated that only 2% of women own land in Kenya, a key collateral in accessing loans from financial institutions. “There is also an apathy of research backed knowledge on the categorization and distribution of MSMEs owned by Kenyan women” Mwangi said. This collaboration will endeavour to resolves some of these challenges.

Vice chancellor, Prof. Henry Thairu emphasized on the need to develop comprehensive initiative with greater impacts on the MSMEs. Also present during the signing was FEWA CEO Nancy Gitonga, Prof. S.M Kangethe, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics and RCED Coordinator Daniel Huba.
