The Inoorero University (IU) held its third annual graduation ceremony on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre. During the event a total of 435 graduands were awarded in various diploma programs. Majority of the students were
optimistic that their years of academic toil at IU have prepared them adequately for the job market and are ready to take up the challenge ahead.
During his speech the IU Chancellor Honorable F.T. Nyammo stated that the institution aims to create an opportunity for those who miss out on the entry and that the university is committed to its vision through provision of adequate resources.
“There is need to align our education and training with our national development objectives,namely Vision 2030 and Millennium Development Goals. We need to quickly move from the disconnect often associated with our institutions of higher learning that is not industry oriented”, the Chancellor went on to say.
His sentiments were also shared by the university the Vice Chancellor, Professor Henry Thairu who commended the graduants that it is through their hard work and dedication that has put them where they are.
During his speech the VC noted that IU, Kenya’s Premier Enterprise University, is planning for better and bigger things. “The public should brace for more as the University plans to move to a new complex in Kiserian with the construction expected to begin in early 2012” said Professor Thairu. Other developments that are ongoing include digitization of courses and re-engineering the school of business in order to align graduate skills with the market needs.
The Chairman of the University Council, Engineer John Waweru assured the congregation that they are still committed to take up the challenges ahead, including attracting and retaining the best staff, refining structures and systems so vital in enabling us realize the objectives in addition to maintaining standards of quality of university education. This he added calls for them to remain focused on the tasks ahead.
The chief guest Dr Mbui Wagacha emphasized that learning in the 21st century has taken a bird’s eye view and thus advised the graduands to take up technology as their armour.
