Inoorero University is born

Receiving Letter of Interim

The Kenya School of Professional Studies has been licensed to become a university. During a colorful ceremony at the Commission for Higher Education grounds in Gigiri, SPS was granted a Letter of Interim Authority to commence operations becoming the ninth such university.

Speaking at the ceremony, Commission Secretary Professor Everett Standa said there is increased anxiety over the quality and value of education and asked the public to seek advice from the Commission to ensure colleges they attend are recognized. Standa congratulated KSPS, the forerunner of Inoorero University (I.U) for providing quality training over the years. He said that “this has led Inoorero to qualify to begin the journey towards realization of its dream of becoming a fully fledged university”.

Standa challenged Inoorero University (I.U) to strive for an upper hand in provision of university education by maintaining the professional image of its forerunner, KSPS. “Today, the expansive, state of the art buildings in universities are mainly used for show and physical image enhancing and to provide a sense of pride and ego satisfaction. Real educational development is not about massive buildings of a university” said Standa.

Speaking during the occasion, the Chairman of the Commission Professor Kihumbu Thairu said the period between the time an institution applies to be a university and the time it is granted authority has been reduced from ten years to five thus enhancing quality. “The streamlining has not been done at the expense of quality, but has served to streamline and tighten the activities and enhance an overall quality management system” Said Kihumbu.

Inoorero University will move from its current campus at Parklands to a new site at Kiserian, South of Nairobi. According to the Vice Chancellor Professor Henry Thairu, construction of the new campus begins in January next year.

Inoorero university started as a college offering professional courses 25 years ago. Narrating its history, the Chancellor, Francis Nyammo said the first enrollment was only six students. The university will offer courses in Information Technology, law and business administration.
