Inoorero University in partnership with Othaya Teachers Training College launched the first Digital Teacher Training Centre on Friday, October 26, 2012.

The facility was officially launched by the Director Policy Partnership and East African Community at the Ministry of Education Mr Kiragu Wa Magochi who represented the Minister for education Hon. Mutula Kilonzo.

The facility, at the Othaya TTC will train teachers on ICT Based Teaching and Information Management (IBTM), a professional course that was developed in consultation with the Ministry of Education, Kenya Institute of Education (KIE) and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The course will assist teachers to develop skills in the use of ICT to manage information from their employer as well as information management in their respective schools. They will also be equipped with skills to develop, interact, store and deliver digital content to their students using computers as a mode of learning as most of the students in the 21st century have become more knowledgeable in ICT and teachers have been left behind in their traditional mode of teaching.

The programme also addresses the appropriate teacher ICT skills, competencies and digital content literacy.

The centre will be used to train Principals, Head teachers and teachers in Nyeri South District and its surrounding. IU plans to roll out other similar centres countrywide.
